HAIKU REFLECTIONS ON DANCE AND BATTLE

HAIKU REFLECTIONS ON THE DANCE AND THE BATTLE
By Dwight Isebia

SINGING BODY
When the body sings
loudly with a rhythmic grace,
art of dance begins

SPEED AND WEIGHT
speed in a battle
creates force exceeding that
produced by mere weight

SKINNY AND HEAVY
the skinny fighter
avoids contact too close to
heavy opponents

CAUTION IN FIGHT
being to cautious
is disadvantage in fight
with one not caring

LIMIT OF WORDS
when words don’t suffice
man is provoked to employ
physical methods

STRIKING MOTION
dance differs
from fight
as fighter moves with intent
to grasp or to strike

TO DANCE OR TO FIGHT?
Where the seduction
by dance was not permitted
men fought to win wife
(DPI 2011)
